Holiday Newborn Session Tips: Babies Born Around the Busy Holiday Season
Are you due around the holidays? First of all, congratulations!!! We think it’s a very magical time to welcome a new baby into the world. Think about it: between the festive lights, cozy blankets, and wonderful holiday traditions, there’s something special about bringing your baby into the world during this time!
The holiday season is a pretty busy (but fun!) time for people with holiday gatherings, traditions, shopping, etc. Adding giving birth, bringing baby home, and a newborn photography session may feel like a LOT.
The good news?? We are here for you! As newborn photographers right here in Londonderry, NH, we work with families all year long to capture their newborn images. We’ve captured many babies during the holiday season, and we love it.
SO, whether your due date is late November, mid-December, or even New Year's Day, here are our best tips for planning and preparing for your newborn photo session during the holiday season.
1. Book Early!
Holiday weeks fill up quickly, and photographers often have limited availability between Thanksgiving and the New Year. We recommend reaching out during your second or early third trimester to reserve your spot. That way, you’re guaranteed a place on the calendar, and we can stay flexible based on when baby actually arrives. Most newborn sessions happen in the first 5–14 days after birth, when babies are still very sleepy and love to be curled up. When you book with us, we pencil you in based on your due date and adjust once baby is here. It’s one less thing to worry about during a very full time of year. All you gotta do is send us a message when baby arrives, and we can go from there!
2. Keep Baby Safe: Germs, Guests & Studio Protocols
Cold and flu season peaks during the holidays, so it’s totally normal to be extra cautious. We take health and safety seriously during every session, but especially with winter babies.
Our studio is kept clean and cozy. We use hand sanitizer frequently and work with only one family at a time, creating a private, relaxed space.
If you’re inviting siblings or extended family to join, make sure everyone is feeling well, and know it’s totally okay to keep things simple with just you and baby. We’ll work together to make sure your little one stays warm, safe, and calm throughout the session.
Oh, and BONUS, since we’re a mother-daughter duo, if one of us is sick, the other one can handle the session!
3. What If Baby Comes Early (or Late)? Don’t Stress!
Holiday babies love to make their own timelines. Whether baby arrives before Christmas dinner or rings in the New Year fashionably late, we’re here for it. We build flexibility into our calendar to accommodate early or late arrivals. We’re completely used to it!
If your baby comes early, we may have a little more wiggle room to plan and prep for your session. If they arrive after their due date, we’ll still capture all those tiny features and sweet sleepy moments. Just keep us updated once baby is on the way, and we’ll take care of the rest.
4. Add a Holiday Touch—Or Keep It Timeless
Some families want to lean into the season with Santa hats, Christmas-themed props, or cozy winter setups, and we love that! Others prefer a neutral, timeless look that works for year-round display. There’s no right or wrong here, it’s just your personal style.
If you’re not sure, we can strike a balance with subtle seasonal touches like warm textures, soft holiday colors, or a wintery backdrop. Our goal is always to create images you’ll love forever, whether they’re seasonal or classic.
5. Bonus Tips for Your Holiday Newborn Session
Think beyond the holidays. Your newborn photos make beautiful gifts, but they’re also heirlooms you’ll treasure long after the decorations are packed away.
Keep wardrobe simple. For parents and siblings, think soft tones and cozy layers. Avoid stressing over festive outfits because baby’s the star!
Gift an album or wall art. A framed portrait or custom photo album makes an incredible gift for grandparents or family members.
Take care of yourself. The holidays are full of pressure. Give yourself permission to slow down, enjoy your new baby, and let us take care of capturing beautiful memories for you!
